Thor’s Tunnel was cut through the mountain in Cedar Canyon to divert Coal Creek away from its natural course so the highway up the canyon could be constructed.

Thor’s Tunnel is about 50 yards in length, and easily accessed from the road. There is very little parking (2-3 cars) on the highway shoulder that can be used when visiting the tunnel.

The water level varies inside the tunnel. Visitors often build rock dams at the end of the tunnel which form pools big enough to soak in - the dams are frequently washed out by the creek though.

WARNING - If the water levels are high, do not enter the tunnel. Be sure to check weather reports before entering - flash floods are common and can occur even in calm sunny weather if there’s a storm higher up the mountain.

This place is great on a hot day. It's always nice and cool here and the tunnel and pools are lots of fun for everyone.
