Also known as the Elbert Slant Railroad Tunnel, this abandoned railroad tunnel is a fun spot to explore. The tunnel is about 235 feet long and can be driven through by most passenger vehicles. The road to the tunnel is a bit rough, and high clearance is recommended (though we've seen minivans and small sedans at the tunnel before). The road can be very muddy in wet conditions, so do not attempt a visit unless the roads are dry.
The best way to get there is to follow Google Maps, then once you're there, switch to satellite view and follow the path marked in green here:
We typically go through the tunnel, turn around and go back through the other direction. The road loops around and takes you back to the other side of the tunnel, but you might as well go through twice :).

This is a fun place for kids! My wife, myself, and our five grandkids (ages 2 1/2 to 8) spent about 30 minutes there but could have spent more time.
It is a little tricky to find because there are no signs. However, we used Google Maps to get us to the "trail head".
From the junction of highway 68 and 6 (aka 12800 S) in Elberta, go 1.7 miles north and then turn west on to Elberta Slant road.
Google Maps will take you 4.15 miles west and say that you have arrived, but you have only arrived at the trail head. Google Maps will say that you have arrived at a crest on the road where you have the choice of going right, left, or straight. Go right.
Go 100 feet and there is a place to park your car. The trail is the road on the left going up the hill. It is about .4 miles to the tunnel. if you have a high-clearance vehicle, the trail can be driven, but our kids had fun hiking, which took about 15 mintues. I recommend hiking over driving.
